The fine art in the shipyard

Wooden boatbuilding is one of the most complex traditional crafts practiced by people requiring special mental, constructional and aesthetic skills. It is the "architecture" of the sea, a study in the form of the wood’s matter and a challenge to achieve a harmonic movement through restless sea waters and the invisible aid of the winds.

It is primarily an art that creates "vibrant" forms suitable to serve the numerous needs of people who travel by sea. It is an art that covers both the utilitarian and aesthetic needs of the sea people, keeping pace with the technology’s evolution from antiquity to the present day.

Wooden boatbuilding incorporates elements of the fine and applied arts and at the same time provides the other fine arts with unique aesthetic stimuli and creative inspirations. For this reason, the boatyard is undoubtedly a place of inspiration, usually treated with special respect by people of arts and letters. It is a unique place of creation, inspiration and culture, the womb of the art of wooden boatbuilding in Greece!
